Humanitarian missions

Humanitarian missions are becoming increasingly popular, with more people willing to give hands-on aid in developing countries.

However, while most candidates might be

physically and financially ready, few are actually fully prepared to take on a humanitarian mission.                   Generosity is not enough: you must be able to justify your professional skills and the personal qualities required to satisfy the agencies that you are fully qualified to carry out the mission.                              Whether you want to help people rebuild their lives after disasters, provide medical assistance or work on education programs, here are some tips on how to prepare for such a mission. 

1. Think about which of your skills are suited to humanitarian work. Much needed abilities include managerial skills, accounting, human resources and languages.

2. Decide where you want to help out. Where would your skills be best placed? Keep updated on international crises. Although Some organisations that operate humanitarian missions won't let you choose, you could pick an agency which works in a specific area.

3. Don't rule out other international agencies if you can't find the type of mission you're looking for.

4. If you haven't already, get some experience helping people in need locally. Not only will this look good in your application, but it will definitely help you when it comes to the real thing.

5. Get training in international relief and development. It might also be an idea to takea  course in health, safety and security.
